Planning For A Lifetime

This is the 2000s and the days are gone when you could work and be reassured that there would be a pension plan waiting for you to support your golden years.  It will not be your parents' or more accurately put, your grandparent's retirements when you are rewarded with a well funded social security income, gold watch, and health insurance for life.

Let's wake up to the reality of life for now, and for years to come.  Your retirement years will be as successful as the work you do today, to plan for such retirement.  Retiring in this new era is too much a mystery for too many Americans.  Advance in science and more accurate information about health care and diet are resulting in Americans living longer and longer.  While this may sound as an ideal state, many retirees are outliving their retirement income.  This in itself is creating a significant risk to the quality of life for many Americans in their golden years.

If you are one of those people who have not planned - and are about 10 to 15 years from the day you retire and have not put away significant saving it is still not too late.   In fact, a 2011 survey by the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) suggests that only 42 percent of Americans have tried to calculate how much they need to save for retirement. The earlier you start planning and saving towards retirement, the better prepared you will be, but even if you are about to start it is still better than starting tomorrow.
